2018 Marucci Metal/Composite Bat Guide
Aug 2nd 2017
The new year is here and baseball season is right around the corner. Many people received new bats for the holidays, while some are still considering what they'll be swinging come spring. This article is an update from one we ran in August and includes a breakdown of all of our metal and composite BBCOR, USSSA, and Junior Big Barrel bat offerings.
Whether you have your bat and just want some more information, or if you need some help considering with Marucci metal bat is right for you, here's everything!
CAT7 CONNECT
In 2017, the CAT7 Connect received some pretty incredible recognition from Popular Science magazine as a Best of What's New Award winner, one of the top 100 tech innovations of the year.
The CAT7 Connect, like the rest of Marucci's metal bats, features a 7 variable wall ring-free design, meaning there are no rings or governors within the barrel walls to limit performance.
Being that it’s the Connect version it features our SDX technology which is our threaded connection technology. This threaded connection takes the handle and the barrel and isolates the two. Also, at the same time, isolates the vibrations that would normally travel from the barrel to the handle and into the player’s hand. This threaded connection helps to keep a stiff connection while at the same time decreasing the vibrations. We found that a lot of players do not like a very flexible bat; they want to feel the ball at contact. Mostly because of the lightness of the composite handle and the weight that is within the SDX connection.
So, the CAT7 Connect is going to be geared toward those players that like a heavier more end loaded bat. It's also a great bat for contact hitters because of the stiff connection, and it still utilizes the ring-free technology.
Available in BBCOR (-3), and USSSA Senior League (-5).
CAT7
The entire CAT7 line utilizes the AZ4X Alloy, which is our strongest alloy to date. It has a tensile strength that allowed us to offer a larger sweet spot start by thinning the walls out the further down the taper and the closer toward the end cap. That's the seven variable wall design in action.
The CAT7 bat itself utilizes the same AZ4X alloy and variable wall design, but it's a one-piece aluminum. You'll notice a faster swing speed and a more traditional balanced feel, and a lot of that has to do with the patented AV2 knob.
The Anti Vibration Knob basically is a rubber harmonic dampener that fits within the knob of the CAT7 and basically helps to absorb vibrations and stings as they pass through on contact. The AV2 is a patented technology by Marucci that nobody else has. One of its key features is that it weighs 2 oz. itself. What it allows us to do is place 2 oz. of weight below the player’s hands which lowers the swing weight of the bat and lowers the MOI. So essentially the -3 BBCOR version is going to swing like a -5. So therefore players are going to be able to generate faster bat speed and get better performance. It comes into play in BBCOR and also in the youth level where kids are not as strong and developed. They will be able to swing a -10 and it will feel like a -12.
Available in BBCOR (-3), USSSA Senior League (-5, -8) and USSSA Junior Big Barrel (-10).
POSEY28 Pro Metal
With the POSEY28 Pro Metal, we thought this was something cool, something unique, something different that had not been done before. Players really seem to like it, and most players have not seen anything like it.
The bat is more than just looks. It will still have the same high performance as the CAT7 BBCOR level and it will still have the same high performance that the Hex Alloy did at the Senior League level just with a new cool colorway that we think really fits the market and fits our brand.
The BBCOR features the same AZ4X alloy as the CAT7 line and also features a variable wall design for a larger sweet spot and explosive pop.
Available in BBCOR (-3), and USSSA Senior League (-10, 2 3/4")
Hex Connect
The Hex Connect brings a two-piece composite option to the USSSA Senior League hitter. Featuring the same SDX Connection technology found on the CAT7 Connect, the Hex Connect produces a clean, sweet feeling with every swing. The individually handcrafted composite construction is maxed out on the barrel length for more confidence and more performance.
As with any composite bat, the Hex Connect requires a 100-200 swing break-in period. Also, be sure to turn the bat a quarter-turn between hits to ensure all parts of the massive barrel are adequately broken-n.
Available in USSSA Senior League -5, -8, and -10 2 3/4"
Hex Alloy 2
A compliment to the POSEY Pro Metal at the USSSA Senior League -10 is the Hex Alloy 2. Featuring the latest and strongest Marucci alloy on the market, the Hex Alloy 2 takes the balance and feel of the original Hex Alloy and adds a thinner, more responsive barrel wall with five variables of wall thickness. The barrel length is maxed out, and along with the stronger alloy, create an enormous sweet spot.
The Hex Alloy 2 also features a professionally-inspired ergonomic knob shape for more control and comfort.
Available in USSSA Senior League (-10, 2 3/4") only
F5
The F5 features a one-piece aluminum design and is the most traditional feeling bat in our lineup. This bat is still going to feature our ring-free technology where there’s no rings or governors within the walls. However, one thing that is different from the F5 to the CAT7 line is that it only features a 5-variable wall internal design. What that does is that it still will have the expanded sweet spot, but it will not be as wide as the CAT7. The CAT7 is still going to feature a longer external barrel design as well because it uses a higher grade aluminum than the F5. But the F5 is going to be a very traditional feeling, smooth, balanced aluminum bat.
Available in BBCOR (-3), Senior League (-10, 2 3/4") and Junior Big Barrel (-10)
