A Deep Dive Into CATX Technology

Consistently creating industry-leading products motivates Marucci. The CATX is the culmination of years of athlete data which led to the largest generational change within the CAT line. Whether it’s the CATX, CATX Connect, or CATX Composite, these are the best bats for the widest array of hitters.
CATX
The CATX line is our first bat line designed from athlete testing data gathered in our Baseball Performance Lab. The Baseball Performance Lab is a state-of-the-art facility that has evaluated hundreds of players from the professional ranks all the way down to youth travel ball. Over 90% of athletes tested in the Baseball Performance Lab performed better with a more balanced design so we moved the balance point of the CATX 1” closer to the hands for faster swing speeds.
We created a larger and more consistent performance area with a new barrel profile on the BBCOR model and tightened production tolerances on the Senior League models, allowing barrel diameters to be built to the maximum limit. This barrel profile also makes the CATX more balanced for faster swing speeds.
The one-piece CATX is crafted with our strongest aluminum, AZR alloy, from the barrel through the handle. AZR alloy utilizes a complex three-stage thermal treatment to give our barrels a more responsive microstructure for better feel and performance.
New to the CATX is the Liquid-Gel anti-vibration knob. This technology is adapted from tuned-mass dampeners, used in skyscrapers, to reduce and absorbs vibrations quicker and more effectively than the previous AV2 knob. It features a precise amount of liquid-gel situated into an open-cavity knob that creates a smooth, solid feel during contact.
The CATX is designed with ergonomic, custom-shaped handle tapers, created specifically for each weight drop (excluding JBB). This design gives players more bat control and is removable for an easy, personalized feel. All models of the CATX have a have a micro-perforated soft-touch grip with extra tack that improves both the feel and control of your metal bat.
The CATX reflects the multi-variable wall design in the barrel, also featured on the CAT9, CAT8 and CAT7 models. The MVWD is a construction of multiple wall thicknesses across the barrel that gets thinner as you get off the sweet spot. This construction creates an expanded sweet spot and thinner barrel walls that are more forgiving after off-centered contact. As always, we utilize a ring-free barrel construction to ensure our bats have virtually no “dead” spots. A lot of bats in the market are built using one wall thickness across the entire length of the barrel and have some type of internal ring or governor at the sweet spot to ensure their barrels stay under the required performance limit. This quicker way to produce bats results in a “dead” spot at the location of the ring and no forgiveness on off-centered contact. Our ringless, multi-variable walls ensure your bat is constructed to reach top performance at the sweet spot and more forgiveness off the sweet spot.
The one-piece CATX is available in five sizes: BBCOR certified -3, USSSA certified Senior League -5, -8, -10 and Junior Big Barrel -10.
CATX Connect
The two-piece CATX Connect features a new S-40 handle, which is a stiffer composite handle that creates more energy transfer from player to ball. The Outer Locking System attaches the handle to barrel from the outside-in, creating the stiffest connection yet for maximum energy transfer to the ball while also dismissing virtually all vibrations produced at contact.
We created a larger and more consistent performance area with a new barrel profile on the BBCOR model and tightened production tolerances on the Senior League models, allowing barrel diameters to be built to the maximum limit. This end-loaded barrel profile makes the CATX Connect a popular choice for power hitters who want a heavier feeling bat without sacrificing swing speeds.

Over 90% of athletes tested in the Baseball Performance Lab performed better with a more balanced design, so we moved the balance point .25” closer to the hands to slightly balance this end-loaded design.

The two-piece CATX Connect is available in four sizes: BBCOR certified -3, USSSA certified Senior League -5, -8 and -10.
CATX Composite
The CATX Composite is a two-piece bat constructed of MDX composite. Multi-directional layers of aerospace graded carbon fiber create an ultra-responsive barrel.
We fine-tuned the barrel profiles on our BBCOR and Senior League models to slightly balanced the bat, translating into faster swing speeds while maintaining the larger composite barrels.
The CATX Composite is a mid-balanced bat designed to feel slightly end-loaded that features the new S-40 handle, which is a stiffer composite handle creating more energy transfer from player to ball for more performance. The Outer Locking System attaches the handle to barrel from the outside-in, creating the stiffest connection yet for maximum energy transfer to the ball while also dismissing virtually all vibrations produced at contact.
