2017 On-Field Gloves: Jose Bautista and Cole Hamels

Apr 11th 2017

Marucci partners Jose Bautista and Cole Hamels have been using Marucci gloves on-field for several seasons. Both players are very involved with the design process from the web, to the size, to the custom elements and colorways.

Bautista’s glove is the standard 12.75” outfield pattern with the T-Web option, which is available in the HTG Series.

Custom to Jose is his actual signature for personalized thumb embroidery, custom “JB” logo for the palm stamp, and stamped on the palm-side pinky, staying true to our wood bat heritage is, “Handcrafted for Jose Bautista”.

“My Marucci glove has been great,” Bautista said. “I love the web; it’s the perfect length for me. The openings in the web allow me to see the ball and block the sun at the same time on fly balls.”

Hamels uses a custom closed web unavailable to the public we call the “CH Web” in a 12.75” pattern length.

“I always wanted a solid back with the web,” Hamels explained. “I didn’t want just the flat piece of leather. I wanted something with a little breathing room where the leather could break a little easier so it’s not as stiff."

Cole uses two color ways – a home and road. The road includes gray laces, gray welting, and blue binding. His most recent request is a mesh back option to use in the hot weather – the mesh back is better for weight and breathability.

“I chose Marucci for the quality,” Hamels said. “You always want to be around people you feel comfortable with and who listen to your ideas and really take those into consideration when making the product.”

Along with his name embroidered in script along the outer thumb, stamped on the palm side pinky is, “Handcrafted for Cole Hamels”.

“It’s been so great to see how the gloves have evolved,” Hamels said. “Marucci is always trying to be cutting edge, and that’s been great to see and be a part of.”
